Movement and Sleeping Position of the Naga Devta
The Serpent Deity (Naga Devta) changes its position every three months according to the Bengali calendar. He always sleeps on his left side:
Bhadra, Ashwin, and Kartik (Aug/Sept – Oct/Nov): The Naga sleeps with its head to the East, back to the North, and tail to the West.
Agrahayan, Poush, and Magh (Nov/Dec – Jan/Feb): The Naga sleeps with its head to the South.
Falgun, Chaitra, and Baishakh (Feb/Mar – Apr/May): The Naga sleeps with its head to the West.
Jyaistha, Ashar, and Shravan (May/June – July/Aug): The Naga sleeps with its head to the North.
2. Auspicious Construction Areas (Based on Months)
Construction is considered "Shubha" (auspicious) only when initiated in the "lap" of the Naga Devta. The correct directions for digging/starting work are:
Bhadra, Ashwin, Kartik (Aug – Nov): Auspicious in the South (Singha).
Agrahayan, Poush, Magh (Nov – Feb): Auspicious in the West (Brisha).
Falgun, Chaitra, Baishakh (Feb – May): Auspicious in the North (Gaja).
Jyaistha, Ashar, Shravan (May – Aug): Auspicious in the East (Dhwaja).
3. Inauspicious Locations and Consequences
Constructing or digging in the wrong part of the Naga's body is believed to lead to severe negative results:
Head (Mastaka): Danger to the life of the house owner.
Back (Pristha): Harm or death to the wife and son.
Hips/Thighs (Jangha): Significant loss of wealth.
Tail (Puccha): Total destruction of the household.
Navel (Nabhi): Generally considered inauspicious for the foundation.
4. Recommended Wood for Construction
For a spiritual and authentic home, the following auspicious woods (Kashtha) are recommended:
Asana, Teak (Segun), Sal, Haridra (Yellow Sandalwood), Jackfruit (Kanthal), White Sandalwood, and Devdar (Surdaru).
5. Ideal Land Characteristics
A home is considered blessed if the land possesses these "classy" and natural features:
Soil: Level ground with moist, supple soil.
Slope: The land should slope towards the East or North.
Drainage: Water drainage systems should be directed towards the North or East.
Environment: Surrounded by beautiful, lush green trees.
